Emeritus and Stanford Graduate School of Business Launch New Online Program for Entrepreneurs, a Radically Practical Toolkit for Success

New York, 17 July, 2023 – Emeritus, the global leader in world-class professional education, announced Launching a Startup, a new program in collaboration with Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB) Executive Education. The six-week online program, taught by James Lattin, Baba Shiv, and Stefanos Zenios unveils a  road map for entrepreneurs that has been proven in the real world with the launch of hundreds of startups that raised billions in venture capital.

The backbone of the program is the Startup Canvas, a framework created by Stanford GSB faculty, which teaches a four-step process for organizing the work, measuring progress, and launching products with greater success. Taking a radically practical approach, the learning journey is designed with three main goals in mind.

First, it provides an opportunity for entrepreneurs to test their ideas in a low-risk way. Second, it guides them with a framework to create their prototype, craft a go-to-market strategy, and outline a profit model. Third, it shows how to avoid the most common pitfalls that stymie entrepreneurs’ ambitions.

“We have learned that successful founders relentlessly focus on identifying an unmet customer need, making sure that the product fits the need, that the go-to-market strategy fits the product and the customer, and that the profit model brings all the pieces together,” says Stefanos Zenios, the Investment Group of Santa Barbara Professor of Entrepreneurship and Professor of Operations, Information & Technology at Stanford GSB. James Lattin, The Robert A. Magowan Professor of Marketing adds, “This program provides participants with a framework for thinking about the essential steps involved in launching a new business and gives them the opportunity to critically examine and apply each element of the framework.”

Featured program elements include the Stanford GSB-exclusive Startup Canvas framework, case studies, application exercises, and a final capstone project that make the learnings concrete and transferable. A live session with Stanford GSB faculty and networking with global peers create an engaging atmosphere that encourages innovative thinking.

“In collaborating with Stanford GSB, we strive to help innovators and entrepreneurs increase their odds of success and build confidence in the process. This is as practical as it gets, offering a lifetime of value,” explains Mike Malefakis, President of University Partnerships at Emeritus.

In 2022, Emeritus programs helped more than 250,000 individuals across 150+ countries develop new skills, unlock professional advancement, and build competitive advantage for their organizations. This collaboration with Stanford GSB will further Emeritus’ mission of making high-quality education accessible and affordable to learners around the world.
